The article I read was about how over fishing is becoming a major consequence for the coral reefs. With the more fish is being taking away from the oceans the more and more reefs are disappearing. Fish play an important role in stabilizing the coral microbiome by feeding on many varieties of algae growing on the reefs! Also releasing nutrients into the surrounding water through excretion.
The article relates so much in class because just a few days ago we did a over fishing game that shows that the more fish you take the lower the fish population goes. To me biodiversity is the main catigory but a root of it all is rapid population, You see because of the large population it increases the demand for fish opening the market to meet that demand for fisherman. While they aren't purposefully depleting the ocean of their variety but instead they are just trying to meet the quota needed to fill the order they received.
To me the proplem is us as people not really thinking about future and money in the long run everybody wants it now and wants to make as much money as we can now. I think if we think more about what effects could come later we won't do as much over fishing as we do now.
